Search "budget planner" on Etsy and you get tens of thousands of listings that all look great in the thumbnail. Some are excellent. Some are a single blurry PDF that will not print straight. We buy them, edit them, print them, and tell you which is which.

Fair question. Most "best templates" lists are written by people who never opened the files. We run our own digital template shop, so we know what a well-built template looks like from the inside: layered files, real instructions, fonts that actually load, and a license that says what you can do with it.
We have also wasted plenty of our own money on bad ones. The planner with text boxes that would not line up. The invitation that printed with a white edge because nobody set up the bleed. Those mistakes are cheap for us to make once and describe here, and expensive for you to make over and over.
The three checks that prevent most bad purchases
- Read the file format line in the listing. "PDF only" means you cannot edit it. "Canva template" means you edit in a free Canva account. "Templett" or "Corjl" means you edit in your browser with no account software to install.
- Check the size before you fall in love. A US Letter planner will not print cleanly on A4 without margins going weird, and a 4x6 invite is not a 5x7. The listing should state exact sizes.
- Look for the license. Personal use only? Small commercial license? If you plan to use a template for your business, this line matters more than the design.
